Recruiter Spotlight: Nate Shuman

Nate Shuman was born and raised on the east coast, living in Cape Cod MA,  for a majority of his life until he moved to San Diego about 11 years ago.  When Nate first got here, he did a few varying sales jobs until he found his first “real” opportunity as an Admissions Counselor for an online university.  After experiencing success in his role there, a prior teammate who went to work for a recruiting firm reached out asking him to give recruiting a shot.

Nate decided to give recruiting a try, and although he had some quick success, he didn’t think it was the best fit for him culturally.  From that point, Nate went on to work for a SaaS Treasury Management Software Company for 6 years. After 3 years, he was promoted to an Account Manager where he worked 3 more years before feeling like he had plateaued. "There really wasn’t a challenge for me anymore, or the ability to make any more money, so I started looking for other options. That’s when Matt Bailey reached out to me and after a few conversations I decided to join CyberCoders."

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to learn more about him and hear his advice for anyone looking to join CyberCoders.

1. What is your favorite part about being a recruiter? 

My favorite part of being a recruiter is building relationships and the constant communication between candidate and client. It really allows you to feel like you are making a difference and doing something meaningful with your time. It also feels great when you find someone a job that they are excited about and helped them progress in their career.

2. Tell us about an exciting job match you made recently. 

I recently helped a more Jr. Developer get a job with a company that he really liked and allowed him to take that next step up to a more mid-level developer. He is really excited about the opportunity to code more and further his technical skill-set. The client also really liked the candidate and told me, even though he was more Jr., they really liked him and wanted to give him a shot. Not only that but we got him about 20k more than he was making prior.

3. How has CyberCoders supported your success? 

First off, my manager is very supportive and encouraging. He is great at his job and very driven, so a lot of that rubs off onto the team and helps us thrive and hold ourselves accountable to metrics/production. Secondarily, Cyrus is a great tool and is really helpful in finding and sourcing quality candidates quickly. I also really like the fact that that CyberCoders as a whole is always giving praise and recognition to those that are excelling, this makes you feel as though you really are appreciated.

4. What personal and professional goals has CyberCoders helped you achieve?

Although I am only in my 6th month here, I can already tell that personally CyberCoders will help me be more financially free and make the living I have always thought I was capable of. This will help take away some of the little stresses in life that can become a distraction, allowing me to focus more on my production and becoming a better recruiter overall. Professionally, CyberCoders is giving me the opportunity to have a career that can really make a difference in my life as well as the candidates that I help get jobs. It has also allowed me to have a position that I feel appreciated in, giving me all the tools I need to succeed and knowing I will be rewarded for my efforts.

5. What advice would you give to someone interested in joining your team? 

Do It! More specifically just follow the process do what your manager says and try your best to always hold yourself accountable, be productive and hit the metrics. If you do all of this, the deals will come. I was told this early on and was doing very well with my CA’s but wasn’t getting placements as fast as I thought I should but I just kept at it and then it all started to come together.
